Sunday Scoop - Edition 60

Hello!!
Madison here, founder and manager of all things at Little Sloans!! I hope you all are settling you’re your summers and enjoying a lovely break from schedules!! This week I announced that we’re expecting our fourth this fall, so this Sunday Scoop is all about newborn essentials from a seasoned mom!! Without further ado, here are all the things I’m loving, sharing, and adding to cart!
First of all, I have a bit of a tangent from normal Sunday Scoop fodder, but I feel like this info might be helpful to someone out there! For at least four years, we were going back and forth about having a fourth, and during that time, I was always asking moms of four about what car they drive because I feel like it’s a real puzzle! Obviously, there are a lot of cars that you can make work for four kids, and we were not planning on trading out my Yukon on account of this baby. Then my car essentially died, so we had to get a new car and wanted one that would really work well given our family’s increased size. So, let me save you many hours of conversations with Chat and give you the lowdown – there are basically three cars that are the most IDEAL for a family with four kids: minivan, Expedition Max, or Suburban/Yukon XL/Escalade ESV (which are all the same car). Once you narrow down to these cars, the discussion becomes one about bench seat vs. captain’s chairs. People have very strong opinions about this!! The Car Mom, mom of four and most knowledgeable person around re: cars, is NOT a proponent of captain’s chairs, which definitely threw me. However, thinking through how my kids have to get in and out of the car for carpool, I felt strongly that captain’s chairs were the move for us. All that to say, we ended up getting a Suburban with captains, and I think I’m going to be really happy with this car. My kids have SO much space going from sitting three across to everyone basically having their own zone, and it’s reallyyyyyy nice. Obviously, we haven’t totally put it to the test with all members of the family included, but I think we made a good choice!!! So, there you have it! Like I said, I think you can ABSOLUTELY make other cars work for four (Toyota Grand Highlander, Lexus LX, Chevy Tahoe, etc.), but if you have to get a new one, you now have my official, very much researched recommendation!!
Now onto the fun stuff: what I would absolutely buy again as a mom of almost four!
· I would remiss not to start this list off with SMOCKED BUBBLES!!! As I have stated previously, I believe babies deserve more than to just wear pajamas! Let your babies wear bubbles, they’ll only be so smushy once!!!! Check out our options for girls here and boys here!!
· Our favorite sleepsound
· The best swaddles
· For all of my kids, we used Honest diapers until my third was two-ish. Around that time, Jessica Alba sold the company, and all of a sudden my daughter became super allergic to these diapers, so I’m assuming they changed the formulation. We switched to Coterie which worked amazing for us. I plan on using Coterie for this baby and would also try Kudos although I’ve heard mixed reviews!!
· Diaper cream we use – always worked well for us!! Just make sure your kids don’t get ahold of it and spread it all over their rug because it will definitely not come out...
· My favorite bibs and burp cloths – I really love these SO much. So cute and super absorbent. For around the house, I also purchased multiple packs of cloth diapers to use as burps!
· We’ve always had to do some formula and had great success with Holle Goat. I’m also open to the Hipp or Hipp HA formulas, but at least one of my kids had a reaction to cow’s milk, so we just went with the goat!
· I personally won’t be doing a true diaper bag again and plan on doing one of these totes with a monogram once we decide on a name!!
· This changing pad is by far the best. It’s so nice to be able to wipe it down!!!
· I HATE OUR HIGH CHAIR! We have the Stokke Tripp Trapp, and I despise it. It’s hard to clean and hard to get them in and out, and I can’t explain it but food sticks to it like nobody’s business!! We’ll be using it because there’s no point in buying a new one now, but if you’re in the market, I would definitely look elsewhere.
· I love these blankets for babies!! Each of my kids have one monogrammed, and I’ll be doing one for this baby as well!
· We have the Uppababy Vista, which has always been a fantastic stroller for us. I know there are a lot of new ones out there now, but I have no complaints with this one! I’ve also never had a Doona but will be borrowing my sister’s for this baby. In hindsight, I probably would have loved to have this the Doona with my first, but it wasn’t really as big then as it is now!
· Some good books are essential!! Pat the Bunny, The Brave Cowboy, Go, Dog. Go!, Don’t Forget to Remember – these are all some of our favorites!!!
Don’t forget to shop all of our NEW summer!! I’ll be back next weekend with more fun! As always, feel free to respond to this email with any questions, comments, or shout-outs!!
