Classic Spring Books for Children

Classic Spring Books for Children

Hello!! You may wonder why we are writing about classic books on a children's clothing website. First of all, we can't share our clothes yet, as we have not finalized our first designs! (But stay tuned! They're gonna be good!) Second, we believe classic children's books have all the same magic of classic children's smocked clothing - these books are timeless, fun, have been handed down for generations, and so beautifully capture the joy of childhood!

Without further ado, here are ten of our favorite spring books for children!

1) The Tale of Peter Rabbit - I don't think you can get more classic than The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. This book is so beautifully written and illustrated, and so are all of her books like The Tale of Tom Kitten, The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies, and The Tailor of Gloucester. I visited an exhibit of her work at the High Museum in Atlanta this year, and I was blown away by how she became an author. Essentially, she loved animals and drawing and would draw all the animals on her parents' farm. She ended up writing little tales about the animals she drew, and then all of a sudden, these famous books were born!

2) Marshmallow - This story by Claire Turlay Newberry is about the unlikely friendship between a cat named Oliver and a bunny named Marshmallow. Marshmallow moves into Oliver's house, and he is not happy about it. Eventually, they become the most unlikely pair of friends. Ultimately, Oliver finds the sweet bunny hard to resist!

3) Spring Story - A book for each season, the Brambly Hedge series by Jill Barklem follows a community of mice as they live and work in the forest. Spring Story tells the tale of a spring celebration picnic in which the whole town of mice is invited! The illustrations are stunning.

4) The Bunny Book - Written by Richard Scarry, this book has one of the most precious punchlines of any book I've read. Not to give it away, but this would also be a very sweet present for your children to give their dad on Father's Day! Run, don't walk, to order this book!

5) The Golden Egg Book - The first of two Margaret Wise Brown books on this page, The Golden Egg Book is another extremely heartwarming story about friendship between a bunny and a chick. The illustrations are really unique, and it's just a feel-good tale!

6) Home for a Bunny - My children have really enjoyed Little Golden Books, and this book by Margaret Wise Brown is no exception! The cadence of the book is fun to read and easy for little kids to "read" along with you.

7) Mr. Rabbit and the Lovely Present - This story by Charlotte Zolotow is about a little girl who needs help finding a birthday present for her mother. She seeks help from Mr. Rabbit, who at first does not seem to be very helpful in coming up with ideas. After going back and forth, the two are able to find a lovely gift for her mother after all! (Note: if you need help finding gifts for your mother, see this blog post!)

8) Pat the Bunny - A book every baby needs. If you don't have it yet, buy it today!

9) An Egg is Quiet - This book, written by Dianna Aston and illustrated by Sylvia long, is truly a piece of art. It is a family nature encyclopedia about eggs. The book is informative and beautiful, and a great introduction to the world of eggs!

10) We are the Gardeners - Written by Joanna Gaines, the book chronicles the Gaines family planting their garden. It is a story about perseverance and patience, and it is also a very informative book about gardening!
